  • Clean and cook food thoroughly.
  • Drink only bottled water and avoid ice or unpasteurized milk when travelling to places where sanitation is poor or water safety is questionable.

Don'ts

  • Sweets, soft drinks and foods with added sugar
  • Alcoholic drinks
  • Raw or undercooked food e.g. egg, oysters, sashimi, smoked ham
  • Water from lakes, ponds, rivers, or streams.
Quit smoking

Smoking when you have HIV makes you more likely to get other serious illnesses than non-smokers with HIV. These include: COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), heart disease and stroke, lung cancer, head and neck cancer, and anal cancer. Quitting smoking helps you feel better and improves your quality of life.
