Golden rules for sexual health

Check-up regularly -

Only testing / check-up will let you know whether you are infected or not. The time between check-ups depends on how often you have sex and the number of sex partners. This increases the chance of picking up undiagnosed STIs that can harm your health as well as reduce your risk of picking up or passing HIV on.

The Scientific Committee on AIDS and STI under Centre for Health Protection has published a document to provide recommendations on STI testing for men who have sex with men (MSM) in Hong Kong in November 2020, which reiterated a minimum of annual testing for MSM in general; and 3-monthly for sexually active MSM with other than a stable monogamous relationship.

Venue of check-up service -

If you are sexually active, you should have regular sexual health check-ups. The Social Hygiene Clinics of the Department of Health, “The Commons” sexual health service or private clinics can help. Some plans in health check centre also include STI screening.

Social Hygiene Clinics of Department of Health is free of charge for Hong Kong residents and no referral is needed. Please visit the website of Department of Health for more information on Clinics provide Social Hygiene Service.

Let him know -

STIs can be passed on back and forth, it is important to talk to your sex partners so they can get tested and treated too. It may not be easy to tell, send an anonymous e-mail to them with our "Let Him Know" service.

Always use condoms and water-based lubricants -

The use of condoms and water-based lubricants reduces the risk of getting STIs.

Get vaccinated for viral hepatitis and Mpox -

Both Hepatitis A and B can be prevented by vaccination. You may check your immune status and get vaccinated from your family doctor. Mpox vaccination can be received in Social Hygiene Clinics or The Commons.
